E) Importing GPS Events from the TrackStick Mini
(this feature is available in the v2.3.2 release of OpenGTS)
The "TrackStick Mini" is a GPS data logging device available from "TrackStick". More information can be found on their
website at "http://www.trackstick.com/products/mini/index.html".
Note:
OpenGTS and GeoTelematic Solutions, Inc. are not affiliated with TrackStick or Telespial Systems, in any
way. "Trackstick" and "Trackstick Mini" are the registered trademarks of Trackstick and Telespial Systems.
The "TrackStick Manager" can export GPS logging information in CSV (comma-separated-value) format. This exported
CSV file can then be imported into OpenGTS to display the various captured locations on a map. During the import to
OpenGTS, the data points can be filtered to include only points that have direction changes or are more than a certain
number of seconds apart, thus reducing the number of unecessary data points.
The required configuration used when exporting the CSV file is as follows:
Date/Time – All of the available date/time formats that the TrackStick Manager supports are also supported by the
OpenGTS CSV import utility, however the "Display Seconds" box must also be checked. Recommended:
Date in "MM/DD/YYYY" format, and Time in a separate column in 24-hour format as "hh:mm:ss".
Timezone – Exporting the data in GMT timezone is recommended, but the timezone of the exported data can be
specified on the OpenGTS CSV import. Recommended: GMT.
Latitude/Longitude – All of the available latitude/longitude formats that the TrackStick Manager supports are also
supported by the OpenGTS CSV import utility, however the "Visible" box must also be checked.
Recommended: degrees.
Altitude – The altitude units must be in meters. The "Visible" box must be checked.
Temperature – The temperature units must be in degrees Celsius.
Speed – The units should be in "kph" (km/h), however "mph" and "kts" should work as well as long as this unit
specification is displayed after the speed value. Recommended: km/h.
Status (duration) – The selected units must be in "minutes".
Course – The course/heading units must be in degrees (required for heading change filtering). The "Visible" box
must be checked.
"Display GPS Fix" box must be checked.
"Display Signal" box must be checked.
"Display Power On/Off Records" box must be checked.
E.1) Configuring Event Filtering:
The import process can filter events to retain only those that are pertinent. The following runtime configuration
properties can be set to specify the type of filtering that should occur when importing the GPS logging data (these
properties should be specified in the "config.conf" file):
trackstick.minimumHeadingChange
This property specifies the minimum detected heading change in order to accept a data point for inclusion into
the EventData table. A larger number will reduce the number of included events. A smaller number wil produce
a smoother route line around turns. Recommended value: 15.0 (degrees)
trackstick.minimumMovingSeconds
This property specifies the minimum number of seconds between periodic data points when the vehicle is in
motion. Recommended value: 120 (seconds)
trackstick.minimumDormantSeconds
This property specifies the minimum number of seconds between periodic data points which may occur when
the vehicle is not moving. Recommended value: 1800 (seconds)
